How pool volume is calculated
Pool volume in gallons depends on shape and dimensions. Rectangle uses length times width times average depth times 7.48 (gallons per cubic foot). Oval and round use elliptical / circular area formulas. Kidney and freeform are approximated using a 7.0 multiplier that accounts for the curved profile.
Average depth = (shallow end + deep end) / 2. For pools with one consistent depth, set both values the same. Knowing exact volume is the foundation of accurate chemical dosing, salt levels, and heater sizing.
